All of these gloomy days have me craving a little vitamin D and bright colors! While the weather decides to be doom and gloom, it doesn't mean you have to compromise with plain jane outfits. Go the easy route with a graphic tee and denim for a comfy look that doesn't compromise style!
Wear some girlfriend jeans and a boyfriend denim jacket for the perfect outfit pair (literally). Make sure to have a good contrast going to pull-off the denim on denim look, like using a light wash or white denim jacket like this one from Anthropologie to pair with these jeans (my faves). Both comfy, both cute, both perfect for chill rainy day activities!
Pull that denim together with a super cool graphic tee, like my all time favorite Jimi Hendrix Tee from Junk Food( ON SALE now). I love the Junk Food brand t-shirts or Marine layer t-shirts because they both have great material and are totally cute for dressing up or down! Snag some cool slides like these ones for the total comfy look for a gloomy day. Finish it off by heading to your fave rainy day spots for a gloomy day well spent. Me? I'll be browsing old records, grabbing a chai latte, and surfing pinterest for outfit inspo and a new vegan chocolate chip cookie recipe! Whatever you do, enjoy your rainy day in style folks.
August has rolled around and already almost left us! Already mid- way in to the month I've felt the excitement of the on coming season, my favorite, fall! Although there are still anther four weeks until its official, I've already been breaking out some of my favorite fall shades and incorporating them in to late summer looks!
My style is totally mood based, sometimes I'm chic and minimal and other days I'm layering it up like I'm boho queen, Stevie Nicks. I identify mostly with the boho-style, but especially so when heading in to fall because I can find some amazing transitional pieces with fantastic colors and/or patterns like this mustard floral jumpsuit! I know what you're thinking "florals for fall?!" (to quote The Devil Wears Prada in a less sarcastic tone), but yes, florals in fall are a total thing and I think based on trends we'll be seeing more fall/winter florals coming around this season! I ordered the jumpsuit from Shop Resurrection, and they're out of the small BUT luckily Lulu's.com also carries it and they have the small available here. I got it in July, but I've been looking forward to wearing it more in late summer and early fall with some mule booties, a denim jacket, and statement earrings (I have an outfit vision here people) For now though, in this blazing summer heat and humidity, I've styled it in a more simple way!
This jumpsuit has literally every fun outfit detail rolled in to one. The wide leg pants with the slit up the front give max breeziness and I'm all about it. The back goes down low with criss-crossing straps that are so cute ( and allow for some adjustment on bloated days!). My favorite detail is the neckline though, I love a good plunging neckline (obviously in a tasteful way) and the wrap-style top gives me just that!
To still show off the neckline, but not take-away from it, I wore a gold layered lariat necklace from Eleighs with it! This one from Kendra Scott or this one from Lulu's are also perfect options! I topped it off with my staple summer hat from H&M (once again, I know) for a fun extra detail. Finally, some flat brown sandals were perfect for keeping it on the more casual side, but I would also totally wear these mule booties with it to take the look up a notch!
This is such a perfect piece for transitioning in to fall. The mustard yellow shade has been one of my favorites for the season and the light pink floral pattern is the perfect touch to mellow out all of the colors! To shop the look, click the links in bold above and check out some recommended pieces I've put together below for taking this look from late-summer to early fall!
What says back to school and back to fall more than hitting up your local drive-in for one last summer-time hurrah (and some fried food and ice cream)! I always get so excited for the fall (my favorite season), but theres something extra nostalgic about the end of summer, wanting to hang on to every last bit of it. And no matter how much I despise the late summer heat I never let it get in the way of a cute summer outfit!
What better time to try out a trend that brings back some middle school nostalgia. Not wanting to relive the glory of my 6th grade fashion sense, I couldn't bring myself to want to wear a denim skirt for quite a while now, but then I spotted this one from Bluetique! It's literally called the "Take me Back" denim skirt, I mean how perfect. The distressed hemline made it for me, but it's the high-waisted aspect that truly sold me on them (let's be honest, if its not high-waisted I probably won't wear it). You're looking at a new late summer/ early fall staple piece for me folks.
I saw the "overall effect" top, also from Bluetique, had grommets and an exposed back and I immediately fell in love. Not to mention I have loved this blue-gray shade since I first saw it everywhere in Italy this past spring. It was practically in every-other store front window display and I've been obsessed ever since. I loved pairing it with my denim skirt for an outfit that transitions perfectly in to early fall by just swapping the skirt for some high-waisted denim jean. The best part about these pieces? You can snag them for 15% off on Tuesdays at Bluetique's "Student Tuesdays"! I'm always down for a deal (duh) and theres no better time to take advantage of this one than for some stylish back to school shopping! Make sure to click the Bold links to shop the top and skirt!
Since graduating from college this past May I've found myself often caught up in nostalgic thoughts about being in Lexington these past four years. If you keep up with me on Instagram you know how much I have loved discovering local spots that range from fashion to food! We only just discovered Parkette this summer, but Bluetique was one of the first shops I went in to as a freshman and now post-grad I still love venturing over there! Its in my favorite area near campus, surrounded by other little boutiques and some great coffee shops, Bluetique is the perfect place to stop in to while getting in to your back-to school groove!
You'll find me rocking each of these pieces quite often the rest of this summer and in to early fall! I totally recommend you head in to Bluetique to find some new back to fall staples for yourself! Check out below for my top back-to-school/fall picks from Bluetique!

This past Saturday I had the pleasure of previewing a new vegan food spot opening up in Lexington called "FIKA Vegan Cantina"! I've been a vegetarian for almost 11 years and have been venturing into more vegan foods lately, so needless to say, I was beyond excited. The excitement continued when I was planning my outfit and realized there was no better evening than this one to break out my new "Beach Hugger" Tee from Amuse Society! No beaches in site in Lexington, but FIKA will definitely give you west-coast vibes with their tropical aesthetic.
Of course I decided to wear my Striped High-Waisted pants (sans tie belt) from Marine layer for the event! I've loved pairing them with T-shirts and finding new ways to wear them so they can be dressed up or down. Marine Layer was such a complementary brand to the event because they are environmentally friendly and make a lot of their products from recycled materials! These Pants are unfortunately sold out, but their Gabrielle Pant in Navy is a great option to achieve the same look (and they're on sale!).
I always try and add an extra boho-style touch to any outfit when I can, so my gold layered lariat necklace was the perfect finishing touch. I just picked this up from
E Leigh's boutique at The Summit in Lexington (unfortunately no online store yet) for only $12! But this Layered Gold Necklace from LuLu's is so similar and still under $15!
We all gathered on the patio at sunset to take in the view and sip on some fresh coconut water before we sampled some of the amazing vegan food FIKA will be featuring. Everything about the night felt rose-tinted and the lighting on the patio could not have been more beautiful with the palm plants and flowers. FIKA is located in Granola Culture which is a beautiful environmentally friendly space, so the everything about it felt tropical and comforting. I'll be doing a recap on the event later this week that I can't wait to share with you all, so stay tuned!
Below are some more options to achieve an outfit similar to the one I'm wearing in this post!

On a chilly summer evening (okay it was 70 degrees, but still) I found myself in a rut for finding something casual to wear for some pre-dinner wine and apps! Naturally I drifted towards my classics, my absolute go-to's, these girlfriend jeans that I part-time live in. I love a good plain white tee, but I didn't;t want to settle for something on the plain side and opted for an updated white tee. This short sleeve sweatshirt tee (now on sale) was the perfect (& totally comfy) way to mix-up my usual go-to white tee and jeans look! The soft sweatshirt material, little lace-up back , and cheeky saying give this tee a step-up from the norm to make it a more stand out option from a basic tee.
We headed to a night cafe called The Kentucky Native Cafe, which is luckily located just at the end of my street! It's located behind a locally run greenhouse and floral shop that requires a Narnia-like entrance through gardens to small forested spot strewn with twinkly lights and cafe tables. Naturally this has become one of my favorite spots for a relaxing summer night that makes me feel like I've left town for a few hours. Wherever you live, I suggest exploring your area and finding a good outdoor spot to relax on summer nights, nothings better than feeling like you've left your town for a little while!
For a casual night out I of course opted for my casual criss-cross brown sandals as my shoes of choice. I did a little shopping in my own closet and re-discovered this yellow and gray tassel purse I've had for 4 years! Unfortunately the purse is no longer available on Coach but this one and this cheaper option are other great options! Finished with my Draper James cat-eye sunnies, this outfit was simple and stylish for casual night of enjoying the weather, wine, and food!
Keep your summer nights more fun by discovering new places that take you out of your norm. I love searching for locally owned places, farm to table food, or somewhere with a great outdoor atmosphere to feel like I've left town for awhile. Just like my shirt says, "seas the day" by taking your outfit and summer night norms up a notch with something a little new and different.

So yesterday's summer solstice brought on some serious heat (the car read 101 degrees to be exact)! With things to do for the day and no pool in sight, I opted for a look that kept it cool and cute for me while I tackled my busy day!
Not wanting to opt for the usual hair-do in the heat (not wanting to do my hair at all really) I picked up my favorite go-to accessory, this straw sun hat (under $20)! Lately I've been seriously obsessing over sun hats and this one I picked up from H&M has seriously been the bomb. It was a struggle trying to find one for daily wear that won't flop in my face or one that has too short of a brim and to quote goldilocks, this one fit "just right". Pair it with a sundress for a more evening look or wear it with a button down and shorts for a more casual beach-style look.
I could talk about the hat for this whole post, but I have to tell you all about the rest of the outfit, starting with this perf button down off-the-shoulder top! It has all the best little details, but the best detail of all is its price! It was only $27 at E Leigh's boutique and comes in 3 different colors (gray[mine]), blue, and pink)and if you want to just keep the colors on rotation in your closet I wouldn't judge. It looks so cute tied at the bottom or with a button un-done at the top! E Leigh's doesn't have online shopping yet, but you can head to their store out at The Summit to shop the top. To shop similar tops check out this one (comes in three colors), this white one, or this striped one. Paired with these high-waisted denim shorts (my favorites as you've probably seen on instagram) and these tan mules and you've got an easy trendy outfit for your day! I always pair with a belt like this black one to give the look some shape, because a flattering shape is first and foremost important in choosing an outfit!
So go snag this perfect OTS button down top for a great deal so you can re-create this day-to-day look for beating the heat and staying stylish.

Being blonde, I've always steered clear of wearing yellows or anything "citrus-y" colored because I was told it wouldn't look right. Based on a few attempts with this color array I thought it usually wasn't all that flattering. This summer though, my mood towards yellow has changed thanks to the amazing yellow hues featured front and center by different brands! The yellow dressing this post immediately caught my eye in the front display of H&M when I was walking down King Street!
The moment I tried it on I knew I needed it. This was yellow I could finally work with! Not to mention, it's the perfect summer midi dress, with femme details and the golden/yellow color brings out a tan perfectly. Also did I mention, it has pockets? Obsessed. Eight year old me definitely dreamed of having a dress like this someday (especially considering my fave crayola crayon as a childwas "golden rod"). It looks like my style spectrum has come full circle officially! You'll definitely be seeing this look more than once on me this summer because I will be looking for any reason to wear it!
Unfortunately, as hard as I tried, I could not find this dress on the H&M website for you all! BUT have no fear, I've found other dresses in the same color like this one and one with a similar silhouettes like this one ! Below I've featured some other sundresses that are in this color and silhouette I'm loving this summer!

Sometimes nothings better ( & cheaper) than taking a weekend to treat yourself in the comfort of the city you live in! Lexington has so many cool new things to offer and with it being summer, the options are endless! One thing is for sure though, your regular day-to-day outfits will need upgraded if your going to be "vacationing" of any type. That's one reason I picked up these AMAZING pants from Marine Layer. My go-to summer top has been this crop OTS from Urban Outfitters last year, which is unfortunately no longer available, but this similar top and this top thats not cropped are equally adorable and achieve the same kind of look (for the same price too)! From a morning stroll at the farmers market, to an afternoon spent shopping followed by dinner and cocktails, these pants will follow perfectly with any staycation activities you have planned! Jack and I are planning on enjoying a weekend in Lexington (around my work schedule) and you'll catch me in this fun get-up for sure.
Some of Mine and Jack's favorite things to do are discover new areas in Lexington for the weekend and have our own stay-cations. Of course I love to find a trendy outfit to wear so I can feel even more like I'm in a new city! We love starting the mornings with brunch at places with outdoor seating like Doodles or County Club, both using local flavors to make a great menu for everyone. Next maybe stop and get a drink at a local brewery and soak up some sun on the patio where I can get a little tan thanks to my off-the-shoulder top (bonus). Strolling around downtown Lexington to look at historical houses and then do some window-shopping out at The Summit at Fritz Farm help get in our steps and especially makes me feel like I've left Lexington for a little! Finally grabbing dinner out at the Distillery District with drinks at Elkhorn Tavern and some live music at the Burl! All the while staying fab and comfy in my staycation ensemble.
It can be so easy to stay in routine, but discovering new places in your own town will always give you new perspective and more fun! My staycation outfit is only complete with pink suede mules for a touch of fun and on-trend style (not to mention comfort). My staycation ootd lets me channel all of my wanna-be-on-vacation vibes thanks to the pop of pink, linen pants, and off-the-shoulder top thats perfect for a sunny day!

Its already pretty obvious that I live for a good pair of High-waisted jeans so it should come at no surprise that I've found a way to make them cute for work as well! Today's weather featured plenty of humidity with still a breeze so jeans and short sleeve top were a great go-to! I just picked this one up from Madewell along with the bandana and already plan on pairing it with all my denim and some cute skirts I've found as well!
these embroidered sandals are my newest obsession so be prepared to see them frequently! They're the perfect heel for walking around and standing all day and the red adds a great pop to any outfit! I just snagged them from the Frye store and I don't think I've taken them off since I've bought them.
of course I've been incorporating my favorite feature accessory for summer into as many outfits as possible. I love this red bandana I picked up from Madewell, it helps tie the whole outfit together (pardon the pun). This outfit is perfect for a casual work day and has been a top OOTD for me this spring!
There are few things I love more than live music, cold beer, and great local food, which is why last friday was my ultimate night. Jack and I had planned to see the Vegabonds play at The Burl a couple weeks before and I had very much been looking forward to it. We opted to have dinner over in the Distillery District where the band was playing and ended up having THE BEST empanadas from Rico's Empanadas food stand in the back of Etheral Brewery (highly recommend). Good thing my jeans were high-waisted because I could've eaten 10.
Knowing we were going to see a southern-rock band at a new bar I opted for these girlfriend jeans and a halter crop top to keep it cool and concert appropriate. I added my pink suede mules because I'm currently obsessed with them and they make the outfit way more fun! They're also surprisingly so comfy.
After a belly full of Empanadas we walked to The Burl to wait for the band. I loved the bar not only because they had such a cool southern-rock/ rugged vibe going on but they had a huge back porch to over look the distillery district. My casual concert OOTD made me feel uber cool as i sipped my Stella and watched the sunset ( okay so sometimes I'm a bit cliche, sue me). Twas a perfect night of live music, good food, cold beer, and GREAT shoes.
