It's been a while since my last travel post, but for lack of trips. I have been from Lake Tahoe, to Dallas, back to Dallas, and now to Atlanta, all within a two month span. It makes me tired just typing it out! But I would never complain about the fortunes I've getting to travel whether its for work or play, they've all been wonderful experiences. In the midst of it all though I started to realize the havoc travel can wreck on ones-self! It was time for me to take a step back and re-evaluate my self-care while traveling and now I want to share some lessons I've learned while prepping for and being on a trip!
1. The Pre-trip Diet
This is something that has really helped me the most in feeling good while traveling. Take the three days before trip and eat at home for every meal. Eat healthy and smart and clean for those three days because traveling usually brings about days of eating out for every meal. This can affect your skin, digestion, and energy level, all of which can effect the kind of time you have on your trip! I've found this to be a really useful tip for pre-travel and I often even do the healthy at home eating for a week before a trip just to feel extra good. After all, it doesn't hurt to feel skinny and fit before traveling somewhere!
2. Stay Active
Don't get to stagnant! We can get caught up in hours of sitting and waiting while flying or driving and that often leaves us feeling more tired than if we had just gone and worked out! Everyones fitness levels are different and I understand that, but something that helps me is going on a run or doing some yoga if I have the time in the morning before a flight! If I don't have the time then I make a point to walk around, do a light jog, or even just stretch once I get to my hotel room and get situated. It's the perfect way to get your body feeling in-check again after hours of sitting!
3. REST, REST, REST
Sometimes we forget that the point of a trip is to get away for a while! Even if its a work trip, it's still a new city to take-in and we can often over-do it from excitement and the pressures of it being short-term, but one of the most important things while traveling is to make sure you get in your rest. I know that heading straight out and drinking and eating and exploring sound more enticing, but a little R&R is going to guarantee you a fresher face and higher energy level for the rest of your trip!
4. Skin Care
Do not neglect your normal routine, in fact, enhance it! I always love to head straight to the sink and rinse my face! First thing I use is the Pacifica Micellular Makeup Remover Toner to get all of the airport grime out of my pores. Then I'll spray some of my fave product ever, Mario Badescu facial spray for a super refreshed feeling. Let your pores breathe for a little before applying any make-up next. Then at least one time while on the trip I like to throw on a face mask that helps especially with oily-ness and purifying like this Pores Be Pure Clarifying Mask (BONUS: it's carry-on size). Finish your skin care routine with a lotion that provides great moisture and SPF without oily residue like the Neutrogena Face Lotion for a good balance after busy days that leave your face dirty and de-hydrated!
5. The On-Trip Diet
I am such a believer in "you are what you eat", which is why even on trips I try to stay some what aware of what all I am putting in my body. I mean hey I will 100% indulge in a giant cinnamon roll and eggs Benedict for breakfast on one or two mornings, but making sure you also get in some fruits and veggies is important. Designate a couple meals on your trip that seem to hit the nourishment mark a little closer. This may help prevent breakouts, bloating, and fatigue caused by the much more indulgent vacay diet you've been on! Try finding the local farmers market one day to make it fun still, while getting in that healthy meal you're body is most definitely craving! Bonus tip: water is just as much a ket aspect to keeping things feeling good as any fruits and veggies are. Odds are you have a few (or many) drinks while on your trip and getting the water in throughout the day is going to make you feel WAYYY better
